Seniors
Did you know?
-
Large breed dogs are considered seniors when they are 6 years old.
- Small breed dogs & cats are not considered seniors until they reach 8 to 10 years of age.
Recent advances in veterinary medicine have made it possible for us to detect certain age-related conditions before they start to affect your pet's quality of life. In fact, early detection and prompt attention can actually add years of quality life for your friend to enjoy with you.
Here at Portage Park Animal Hospital, we have developed a complete Senior Moments Health Care Program. This enables us to tell you how your pet is doing and to recommend the appropriate care to keep your pet in good health and young at heart.
The Senior Moments Health Program includes:
-
Complete physical exam: The doctor will check the eyes, ears, nose, teeth, skin, heart and lungs, weight and general body
conditions.
-
Blood tests: The doctor will run tests to check for anemia, immunity, thyroid, liver and kidney functions, and other major
organ values.
-
X-rays: Chest and abdominal X-rays will be performed to check for abnormalities of the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs.
X-rays will also tell us if your pet has arthritis.
-
Urine analysis: This test will check for overall urinary health, evidence of kidney disease, diabetes or other abnormalities.
-
ECG: This test will tell us how well the heart is working.
-
Blood pressure
