Dental Services from Our Veterinarian Near Albany Park

You may not think much of your pet’s oral health, but animal teeth cleaning near Logan Square is an integral part of caring for your furry friend. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) notes that 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of developing oral disease by the time they turn 3 years old.

Oral health issues can lead to bone destruction, jaw fractures, and internal organ damage. Kidneys, in particular, can feel the effects of untreated dental issues in your pet.

Stay one step ahead of any issues by visiting our experienced team! Here are some of the services we offer at Portage Park Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic.

Your Pet’s Safety Is Our Priority

We believe every dental procedure should be thorough, complete, and safe. This is why we offer our dental packages that include everything needed to keep your pet comfortable and their mouth healthy.

All our dental procedures include the placement of an IV catheter and IV fluids. This is just one of the steps we take to ensure anesthetic safety. We are also constantly monitoring your pet’s heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation (pulse ox) levels. Heated blankets are used to help maintain body temperature.

Cleaning & Polishing

We do a full scaling of plaque and tartar of the entire mouth. Just like your human dentist, we use ultrasonic and hand scaling to remove the buildup. We then polish each tooth to help make them resistant to plaque forming.

Full-Mouth X-Rays

About 60 percent of your pet’s teeth are below the gumline. Sometimes a tooth can look normal on the surface, but its root may be infected or damaged. We use full-mouth, digital x-rays to evaluate your pet’s oral health, and it allows us to catch developing problems you can’t see. Even if your pet isn’t currently showing any signs of oral distress, we still recommend dental x-rays and animal teeth cleanings in Chicago regularly.

Tooth Extraction

Periodontal disease is the main culprit of tooth extraction in pets, however, there may be other contributing factors such as:

  • Fractured teeth
  • Oral trauma
  • Oral tumors
  • Retained baby teeth

Often pet owners are hesitant to have teeth extracted, but it is sometimes necessary to ensure your pet’s overall health. It’s no surprise that the longer an infected tooth goes untreated, the greater the chance it can harm other organ functions.
Did you know that on average, you can extend your pet’s life by 2-4 years with the right oral care routine?  If you believe your dog is suffering from an untreated tooth infection or mouth pain, it’s important to seek dental care as soon as possible. Our friendly and passionate staff at Portage Park Animal Hospital & Dental Clinic is there for you and your pet when you need it the most.
