Surgical Services
It’s difficult to gauge exactly what’s going on with your pet’s health, as animals express themselves differently than humans. In fact, sometimes the best option for your pet’s health is opting for surgery. Getting the news that your pet needs surgery is frustrating and scary, but rest assured that our experienced surgical team will treat your pet as if it were our own. From routine surgeries to more advanced surgeries including orthopedic procedures, we have the knowledge and dedication to you and your family to complete any surgery with care. Here are some examples of surgeries we perform and the technologies we use to successfully do so.
Common Procedures
Maybe your pet’s surgery has been a long-time coming or maybe the need for it happened overnight. Regardless, our veterinarian in Chicago will walk you through every step of the way. Common surgical services that we offer include tooth extraction, removing a skin mass or a skin abscess, ulcer removal, cancer removal, bladder stone removal and repairing ACL ruptures. We will work with you and your pet to figure out the best treatment plan for each individual situation.
CO2 Laser
Instead of using traditional tools for surgery such as a scalpel, a laser beam is used, as lasers have a highly focused beam that can either vaporize or chip away existing living tissue. This is a completely different approach to surgical procedures and there are many benefits. Laser beams are also used to cauterize blood vessels, seal capillaries, lymphatics and nerve endings. Whenever possible, our veterinarian in Chicago will utilize a CO2 laser during procedures. Benefits of using the laser include less bleeding because the laser seals small blood vessels along the way. Your animal will be in less pain because it seals nerve endings and lymphatics. There is also a reduced risk of infection and a faster recovery time because there is less swelling.
